Question by Catherine B: My dog has lung cancer. Are there any herbs I can give her to help with her immune system?
as well as to help with her respiratory system. Of course she is under the care of a vet and I won’t consider any suggestions as hard medical advice. Also, I have accepted the inevitable and am not
seeking a miracle cure. Just something to keep her comfortable. She is still active but I notice her panting more.

Instead of trying to prolong the inevitable, what you should do is try and make the rest of her life as comfortable as possible.

Ask your vet if there are any doggy pain killers to help her in her final weeks.

If she is suffering a lot, as painful as it is, you may need to just have her put down.

I’m sorry to hear that, I send my condolence.

In memory of our beloved dogs, Spirit and Jordan. Original video was taken in the spring of 2007, when Spirit was in the midst of her struggle with degenerative myelopathy and needed a doggie wheelchair for locomotion. Around that time Jordan was diagnosed with aggressive terminal cancer. He defied the odds and lived another happy and active 18 months. The original video has been edited and shortened, and additional photos of Jordan and friends have been added.

Why don’t you take her to the vet? Either for treatment, pain meds, or to end her suffering?

Here’s our second video entry for the Dare2Care4Sophie blog. Today I ran a 5K race in Brooklyn in FULL COSTUME as the “Dancing Dog!” It was my first time out in the costume and I had a blast. My plan is to take my Dancing Dog routine around various busy areas of town (boom box, disco tunes, you get the idea…), and what better way to kick things off than among the supportive (and charitable) running community? I met some lovely people and even bonded with some fellow pet parents. If you were there, please head on over to www.Dare2Care4Sophie.com and sign our guestbook! And don’t forget to send me those photos if you took any. See you all at the PPTC Cherry Tree 10-miler!

In memory of Shebang, my heartdog and soulmate. Shebang died very suddenly and unexpectedly in October 2007, at only nine years and three weeks of age. She fell sick on October 15th, and at 3:30 am on October 17th, I had to make the devastating decision to let her go and be pain free. Her illness turned out to be pancreatic cancer. There will never be another Shebang, she was the dog of a lifetime.

Question by I_luv_Red_Jumpsuit_Apparatus: I think my dog has cancer?
I think my dog has cancer. He’s a Golden Retriever, and he’s going to be 12 this May. Old, I know. He won’t eat, and when he does, it’s very little. When he was still eating dry dog food he would most of the time vomit it up. Before he would eat and eat to no end. Now, he can’t even finish half a can of dog food. He drinks a lot of water, and since his hips are bothering him, he’s sitting or laying down a lot as well. My parents won’t take him to the vet, saying that since he’s so old that he’s just going to die soon anyway. My mom always talks so blantantly about his imminent death. I nor my sisters want to hear this. I don’t think I could stand to lose him; he’s been there since I was just a little girl. He also coughs a lot, and he’s so skinny, I can feel his ribs when I rub him. Is there anything I could do to make him more comfortable?

I am sorry to hear your story. Your parents sound unnecessarily cruel. I recommend talking to your school’s counselor.
