My dog (jack russell terrier) was diagnosed with cancer 1 year ago, a large malignant tumor on his throat under the skin. We had it removed.. but now a year later the tumor has returned and is growing very fast. In the last month several other large lumps have appeared on his sides. His breathing sounds short and like there is phelm in his lungs. My vet feels he is too old to undergo another surgery. He still runs around like a puppy and eats just as much as before. How much longer do you think my pup has to live? :*( Thank you
My dog is now 11 years old.

please help. i need advice. i believe my husband is truly evil and i do not know what to do.he calls me names everyday, threatens to kill me everyday, degrades me in front of our kids, degrades the kids, calls our 14 year old son names because he is not interested in sports and is not a manly man like him{our son is a perfect 4.0 student and very book smart} he calls our daughter ignorant names also, just today she asked me what a lot lizard was, i asked her where she heard such a thing, she said daddy called me it. she is 11. i am in fear and tears everyday. he takes our food money and then when i notice it missing and ask him about it he says that i am crzy and just didn’t count it right. i have no idea what he buys with it.i have found a woman he works withs phone and cell phone number in his wallet and he got really mad at me for snooping then he said it was just about work.he is also mean to our pets. i am so exhausted right now. he has been laid off of work for a month now so things have been really bad cause he’s always here.just this morning he did something that i just simply could not believe.we have two dogs inside of a dog pen. i heard an awful wounded animal screaming so i woke my husband to see what the commotion was. i looked out the window as he was going out to the dog pen. what i witnessed will be forever burned in my memory. it was just a baby racoon that had fallen out of the tree that hangs over the dog pen. it had become trapped in the pen and the dogs were tossing it around like a rag doll. it was screaming horribly. it was awful. instead of rushing in to scoop it out with the shovel or something to get it out of there, my evilmonster husband just stood there and laughed while our dogs tortured it. then my evil husband went into the dog pen as this poor thing was desperately trying to escape and proceeded to beat it repeatedly with a flat head shovel. this poor thing was flaling around and screaming. it was the most brutal awful thing i have ever witnessed. he beat this poor thing about 20 times and when it wouldn’t die he took it to the creek that is next to the dog pen and drowned it. all the while my daughter and i looked on from her bedroom window. am i wrong for seeing this as awful? i called his mom hoping that maybe she would talk to him but she just said thats what the raccoon deserved. she also said that i need to quit badmouthing him. i do not know what to do. he pushed my family away from me to the point that they disowned me, he would never let me visit them and never let them visit me and now they don’t want anything to do with me. i have no education beyond high school because he wouldnt let me go to college. i have no friends because i am not allowed out of the house. i dont know what to do. i have tried to ask him to move out but he wont go. i cant leave, no job, 2 kids and my pets which i will not leave here with him.also i am sick all the time and dont have the energy to fight.by the way i have been living this hell for 17 years. i wish some days that i would just die. i have recently discovered a lump in my breast and have a strong family history of breast cancer, and my mom was diagnosed 3 years ago with it also. i have been through a battery of tests for this and the only support he has given me has been to complain that i am always sick and he is tired of it. i have weird skin rashes, a constant cold and now this breast issue. i know that it is from the stress he has me under. i really do feel as if i will just curl up and die from a broken heart one day.

Well, at first we thought it was a tumor, it came out of no where, and it’s under the skin. It’s gotten so big that it’s swollen her throat up, she hasn’t eaten in days or even a bit more than a week, and she can barely breathe. She has lost more than 12 pounds from not eating. we’ve taken her to a doctor and he said at first it didn’t look to good (like cancer), and then drew some blood and took a sample of the bubble. the results came back and apparently they messed something up. now the doc drew some more from it, and it was all pus, but now he says that it just looks like it could be an infection of a tooth (we wont get results back from the last test until wed. or thur.) but it’s all the way down her neck, and it’s the size of a tennis ball! has any other dog owners expirienced the same thing, and what ended up happening? oh, and the dog is a 13 year old female black lab. i appriciate any help. thank you.
I would really like to take her to another vet, but it’s my boyfriends dog and for 1)he and his family are states away right now and 2) they put the dog in the vets office for the time that they are away. by the time they get back the results will be in. I don’t like this vet either, but alas it is not up to me. i am just wondering what it could be. i told him he should have taken her in once she started having trouble breathing a week or so ago.

Thank you for all the very good answers, i don’t know which one to pick as the best because there is so many with good advice! Thank you all again!

Yeah many people in this country share Native ancestry, but that don’t make you an Indian. I know plenty of “skins” who got mullets but they usually don’t have it bleached to high heaven. Dog’s mother was a missionary on Native reservations proselytizing Christian messages which is & has been a 500 year cancer to our traditional beliefs and large part of the root of the alcohol epedimic Native communities. I hate seeing a white man “pre-tendian” go to the Pacific to snatch up brown people to feed his own addiction. It’s not a question of white skin, first nations peoples are the MOST ethinically divers race in this country because we are the #1 minority statistically to marry outside of our race for a plethera of reasons. Does he speak his language, does he attend ceremonies, I’ve never heard him say what nation he claims, wait let me guess, his grandmother was a Cherokee princess. Whites & your Christianity have done enough, let REAL native Hawaiians police themselves.

We have a 12 year old border collie, with a large cancer tumor on her right side lower jaw area. Part of the tumor was taken out, but extracting the rest would’ve ment taking out portions of her jaw. The tumor is increasing in size causing her lip to sag and is also spreading down her neck. When she uses her jaw too much {barking, eating} the skin covering the tumor erupts a bit and it bleeds a little. The vet has put her on a series of pain meds and antibiotics. She is still an active and alert dog. She doesn’t act like she is in any pain, she can still eat soft dog food.
My question is, When is the best time to put her to sleep? I don’t want to wait till the cancer breaks her jaw, but I don’t want her to suffer either. What is your opinion for this situation?

My black lab died in November 2006 of bone cancer. She had a swollen ankle for a year, but my moron dad said it was just arthritis. She was at the age when most dogs may get arthritis, but I did not believe that arthritis was the cause. Finally, six months before her death, she had an x-ray and was diagnosed, but by then, it was too late. Unlike other dogs, who would have gone off to be alone, she came into the kitchen and dropped to the floor. Her head lay in my lap as her body grew cold. She had no burial. She was given to the vet and I never knew what was done with her body.
Now after three years I have been having a dream of going on a walk. I see her and two other dogs; my dogs, all of whom were dead as well. I walked over to them. To me, they were neither dead, nor alive. I only knew that it had been a long while since I had seen them. But as I get closer, a feeling of dread, and terror washes over me. After this, I realized that I wasn’t seeing what I thought I was seeing. The faces of the three pets changed to death. Their eyes were glazed over, which is one of the first signs of decomposition. Their skin was clinging to the bone. I could see almost every bone in their bodies. Some hair was missing and parts of bone were exposed. Panting turned into snarling as they bared their gruesome teeth. I try to run, but they are too fast. They are two feet behind me when I wake up with a jump as if I were having dreams of falling down stairs. The little chihuahua curled up next to me becomes a sudden fear, but I shall not put her in the laundry room just because of a dream.
I believe all dreams are symbols, you just need to find what those symbols are and what they mean, which is why I included the history in the first paragraph. None of them got buried. Once they died, the bodies were sent to the vet. Could this mean something? I want to sleep without Dixie, Tiger, and Tiffy snarling at me in my dreams.
Thanks for your help.

our 10 yr old shih tzu has a lump or tumor on the side of his face on his cheek, but I think it may be attached to the side of his mouth cause when he yawns its right beside I guess where lips would be on a dog. He doesn’t seem to have trouble eating. we’re feeding him soft foods nevertheless

anyways he has black skin, and the lump/tumor is black… it has a pink stringy like blister thing in the middle of it that bleeds when he picks at it so we have a mask type thing that he wore as a puppy on him now so that he wont pick at it

the vet appointment is wednesday and we’re worried sick, its a shame that we cant get in earlier cause this has really got us down

hes acting perfectly fine…

what are the chances of it being cancer? and what does it sound like? i searched all over the internet and nothing even comes close to it, nodular malanoma (sp?) does, but its cause wouldnt match my dogs lifestyle AT all

also, how much would such a lump cost to remove?

thank you so much,
kathryn
a few other notes….

it popped up out of no where, we’re pretty sure over the span of a few days, it doesnt seem to have grown however

he’s a pic… it looks like an eyeball in the pic but it isnt,

also, its about the size of a quarter, and its somewhat big width-wise

The other day we discovered a small cyst like pimple thing on my dogs neck.
It is whitish, or flesh colored like. it is tiny. like a zit. thats what it looks like actually. My dog is extremely sensitive when we touch that area, he itches really bad there! Could this be a sebaceous cyst? are they that itchy to dogs? I just recently gave him a bath and noticed it. It seems to be getting bigger, so I know its not cancer. since its the holiday weekend no vets are open, and i dont think this warrants an emergency visit. so in the mean time, what could this be? It looks like a white head zit like on a human sort of. it is hard to the touch, and is just attached to the skin, not muscle. its perfectly round too. is there a way to get rid of this, will it go away on its on or will my vet have to drain it? thanks

I have two cats and one dog. 12, and 8 are the cats ages, and 4 is my dogs age. When we got our 12 year old, she was rescued on the side of the road in a cardboard box with the rest of her litter. The 8 year old was mothered by a stray cat roaming around and then hid under a porch. My grandmother took the litter in and we adopted one of them. Then we got our dog from a breeder. Our older cat used to be a normal weight, then she got incredibly fat all of a sudden, then in a matter of a month she lost all her weight and is now so skinny you can count every rib, her skin almost hangs. She eats a normal amount, and she is still energetic it’s not affecting her or anything but just her look. Now my 8 year old cat is also getting overly large, she looks like she’s about to pop. My grandmother has owned many cats and she thinks that one of our cats had F.I.P (which is almost like a cancer but in the form of a virus)

The cats have free roam of the house, while our dog is confined to our kitchen and family room (which are connected,- we have a fairly small dog. The older cat comes into the kitchen but the younger one hates our dog, she doesnt come around much.

I know that FIP is untreatable, and it’s known to be passed between cats. I just want to know could it affect my dog as well.

I love my animals very much and I would appreciate if someone could tell me if it can be transmitted to dogs. Thank you in advance!
